Have you ever had a full circle moment?

I left the corporate world in 2014 and formed a business, coaching consumer clients in mindset, communication and public speaking.

In 2019, I started dipping my toe back into the corporate world as a consultant, delivering talks, workshops, programmes and one to one coaching.

Over time, I built stronger, more long term relationships with organisations, and realised there was a natural order to the process.

I consciously applied this approach, and shared it with my 121 clients who were also coaches and consultants looking to land speaking gigs with corporate audiences.

Which has all resulted in a proven strategy and a full circle moment!

Introducing The Chocolate Room Strategy

The Chocolate Room Strategy helps coaches and consultants deliver corporate keynotes in inspiring, learning-rich ways aligned with their expertise that leads to long term relationships and continued business.

Why is it called The Chocolate Room Strategy?

Remember in the film Charlie and the Chocolate factory where Willy Wonka leads his golden ticket winners down a narrowing tunnel to a tiny door that opens to the chocolate room, full of dazzling treats?

This approach enables you to build a long term relationship with a corporate client by introducing them to your key areas of expertise in a signature talk, which leads them to your workshops, programmes and 121 coaching which solve the problem on a much deeper and more learning-rich level.

There are 4 key steps and I’ve broken them down so that you can apply them to your own business.

The Chocolate Room Strategy

  1. Create your expert method, so that you can communicate your unique approach in a succinct and unique way

I’ve been supporting clients to develop expert methods as far back as the beginning of this business nearly a decade ago. The cultivation and creation of an expert method has proven successful in establishing yourself as a thought leader and uniquely recognised expert in your field.

As a coach or consultant, you may have many competitors all vying for a speaker spot in a corporate organisation, or to deliver coaching and training on a specific subject. Having an expert method is one of the best ways you can stand yourself apart. It is also a foundational piece of work required to develop a signature keynote talk to deliver to corporate audiences, whether virtual or in real life. You can read more about how to create your own expert method in my blog here

2. Write your signature talk, aligned to your expert method that inspires and ignites thinking in your audience and leaves them wanting more

Remember that little door at the end of the corridor in the Willy Wonka analogy?

That door represents your signature talk.

It’s an inspiring, thought provoking, and captivating piece of delivery, that won’t solve all the problems of your corporate audience, but isn’t supposed to. It is instead designed to give them real value, food for thought and questions to answer. The signature talk is based on your expert method, completely aligned with your bone-deep expertise and interwoven with your story.

It uses tips, tricks and approaches to sprinkle magic on your audience, showcase authority on your chosen subject and leave them inspired to want more. You can read more about the key ingredients of a signature talk here.

3. Align your offerings: enabling you to unpack the key concepts of your keynote talk in deeper and more learning rich ways, from workshops to programmes to one to one solutions.

This step invites you to zoom out and take a look at your entire suite of corporate offerings and align everything in a tidy and easy to convey way.

The signature talk is at the peak of this hill top, and is based on your expert method. You can then create aligned workshops, programmes and coaching that go deeper into the learning journey and provide a higher degree of sustained change, positive impact and ROI.

More than one area of expertise? No problem. You don’t just have to have one suite of offerings in reference to one signature talk, you can have talks and offerings on different relevant areas of expertise with different expert methods.

4. Create a continued journey for your corporate clients: get recommended internally, build long term relationships and unfurl long term solutions.

Once you have delivered a signature talk, you and your corporate client have now entered the chocolate room. Here, a long term relationship can be developed by building strong internal relationships with key stakeholders across the organisation, and providing services based on their needs. It might be that the signature talk IS the door opener to the chocolate room, or it might be that you had an opportunity to work for an organisation and deliver a workshop as the first point of contact. Either way, this step is a fantastic way of building a pipeline of work, commanding higher fees, and getting a continuous stream of revenue into your business.

What next?

A large part of my career has been built on leading, designing and delivering learning solutions inside large and complex organisations. Because of this I have a unique understanding of what HR, talent and leadership stakeholders are looking for, what makes a great solution (from keynotes to coaching) and how to best nurture these relationships for long term success.
