Imagine this: My client, an introverted senior leader, with just a few hours’ notice, was asked to deliver a critical message to 300 people.
She won’t mind me saying this, but this isn’t her favourite thing to do.
She was understandably nervous, unsure how to make her message clear, compelling, and, most importantly, succinct.
Enter the Turbo Talk method, a powerful way to structure talks that I taught her in just one afternoon.
Using the Turbo Talk method, she delivered her message with clarity, and the result?
The audience was engaged, informed, and ready to act.
In the fast-paced world of leadership, being able to deliver a message clearly, quickly, and effectively is crucial. Turbo Talks are perfect for business leaders and entrepreneurs who need to get buy-in, motivate their teams, or share an update, without wasting time.
So, what is a Turbo Talk? It’s a short, punchy talk, typically 10–15 minutes long, structured around the 4MAT method created by educational theorist Bernice McCarthy. The key to a Turbo Talk is simplicity, impact, and following these four essential stages:
- Why – Start with why your audience should care.
- What – Explain what you’re talking about clearly.
- How – Outline the process or steps.
- What if – Overcome objections or envision the positive outcomes.
In my latest podcast episode, I walk through how to use this structure to deliver messages that stick.
