Six months ago, I decided to quit drinking, not because I was a daily drinker, but because I noticed how much alcohol was holding me back

I knew my health and sleep would improve (which it has!), but I didn’t realise just how much it would transform my productivity, creativity, and overall happiness.

(By the way, I’ve documented these results in this week’s sound bite. You can listen here: https://podfollow.com/words-that-change-lives)

What I didn’t expect were the five surprising wins that would come from this journey:

  1. The Glow Up: More energy, better sleep, clearer skin, and an unexpected confidence boost.
  2. A Creative Explosion: Within a month, my brain switched on in ways I hadn’t felt in years. My creativity skyrocketed, and I started embracing new projects with passion.
  3. Stronger Presence & Patience: I’m a single parent. My kids have unique needs. Without alcohol’s emotional rollercoaster, I’ve been more patient, more engaged, and more present.
  4. Better Decision-Making: I’ve been able to focus on what truly matters, from my work to my relationships.
  5. Valuing My Time Like Never Before: Time is my most precious resource, and I’m finally treating it that way. Instead of prioritising social events around drinking, I now prioritise meaningful experiences.

The biggest lesson?

Sobriety isn’t about what you give up, it’s about what you gain.

This isn’t a leadership topic but it is an important one.

I’m sharing this in case you might be reading this wanting to make a change, but not knowing where or how to start.
