We’ve all heard the saying, “It’s not what you say, but how you say it.”

But what if the connection goes even deeper than that?

In my latest podcast episode, I sat down with Suzie Parkus, a success mentor specialising in relationship dynamics, to explore how energy plays a crucial role in communication, especially in dating and relationships.

And let me tell you, this conversation shifted my perspective in ways I wasn’t expecting.

Here are a few golden nuggets:

Energy speaks louder than words.
On dating apps, for example, people often focus on crafting the “perfect” profile. But Suzie pointed out that what truly attracts the right match isn’t just words, it’s the energy behind them. If you’re feeling drained, cynical, or just going through the motions, that’s what comes across. And guess what? You’ll attract more of that same energy back.

Love languages aren’t a checklist, they’re a tool for connection.
A lot of relationship advice centres around compatibility with love languages. But Suzie argues it’s not about finding someone with the same top love language, it’s about understanding how both you and your partner express and receive love. That awareness can prevent so many unnecessary misunderstandings.

What’s in your cup spills over.
One of the most powerful takeaways for me was this: If you’re carrying stress, frustration, or self-doubt, that’s the energy you’ll bring into every interaction, whether with a partner, a friend, or even a colleague. Managing your own happiness is key to building meaningful, lasting relationships.

This episode had me reflecting on all areas of life.

How we show up in one area is often how we show up in all areas. If you’re a leader, business owner, or decision-maker, this concept applies just as much to professional relationships as it does to personal ones.
