Just over 12 months ago, I sat down to do something unusual.
I wrote a letter to my future self. A Zander letter, based on a method by conductor Benjamin Zander.
The premise?
Write as if it’s a year from now, and all your biggest hopes and goals have already come true.
So I sat down and got to work.
I imagined myself confident, clear, and fulfilled, working with leaders in global organisations, creating powerful new tools, living a grounded sober life, and being deeply present with my children.
Last week, that letter was delivered back to me via my email inbox, with the opening line ‘Dear Future Me.’
When I saw it I got a little rush of butterflies, anticipating what I had written and what had come true.
And most of what I wrote… happened!
I’ve worked with senior leaders in new companies in brand new industries coaching and training them on their strategic influence and communication skills.
I created a thought leadership methodology, Authentic Influence®, and built an assessment, assets and coaching and training suite around it.
My podcast hit 70 episodes, interviewing some key people in my niche, and I’m planning Season 2 in a studio
I’ve spoken at conferences, coached TEDx speakers, and had clients land global stages
My visibility and confidence grew through short-form video and studio interviews
I remained sober for over a year, my proudest achievement of all
Not every goal came to life, but the right ones did. And I truly believe the act of writing it and feeling it, seeing it and claiming it, set things in motion.
If you’re ready to dream boldly and align your mindset with your future self, I highly recommend writing yourself a Zander letter.
I walk through it step-by-step in a podcast episode I recorded when I wrote mine.
